Riverfront Stage Festivities Launch with Gary Allan

by Autumn Allison

The sun was already heating things up at 9:30 AM on Thursday, but that didn’t deter Country Music fans from crowding the banks of the Cumberland for Gary Allen’s appearance on the Chevrolet Riverfront Stage.

Winfield’s Locket, the sister duo out of Louisiana, opened the stage with an acoustic version of the national anthem. The strong vocals and perfect harmony of the sisters prepared the crowd for Allan’s performance.

Allan then entered  to hollering and cheers in particular from female fans expressing their loyalty. He began with his hit from 1999, “Right Where I Need to Be,” from his Platinum album Smoke Rings in the Dark. The fans were so involved with the performance that no one seemed to notice a guitarist throwing his pick in the crowd after playing “A Feeling ‘ Like That.”

Tonya Guffuy of Flint, Michigan was just one among many who had been looking forward to this performance. “Eleven hours …  well, more like 12 hours. That’s how long it took me to get here,” he estimated. “I got a four-day pass cause I don’t want to miss anything.I’m doing nothing today except sitting here, on my towel, and listening to all kinds of good music.”
